Teachers at YOGSTUDIO Mill Valley draw from an extensive background
in Hatha Yoga. All classes practice traditional yoga postures to
build strength and flexibility, with an attention to breath and
alignment. Most classes are an eclectic blend of the following styles
and disciplines, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. |
| Anusara yoga, as founded by John Friend,
is a uniquely integrated approach to Hatha Yoga in which the art
of the human spirit powerfully blends with the science of biomechanics. The
asana practice integrates the celebration of the heart, Universal
Principles of Alignment with balanced energetic action. |
| Often referred to as 'aerobic' or 'power'
yoga, Ashtanga is an energetic series of asanas and sun salutations
designed to build heat and detoxify the body. |
Students
of Ashtanga/Mysore move through the Ashtanga poses in a room with
others, yet at their own pace.
An instructor assists each student individually rather than leading
the group as a whole. Prior Ashtanga experience required.
Ashtanga Mysore practice is generally cancelled on "moon days". See class
schedule
for details.
|
| $14 Community/Power Hour Classes. Shorter, specially-priced
mid-day classes for the yogi looking for a great value and efficiency! See schedule for exact times
and location. |
| Precise alignment of the muscles,
bones and joints describes the main focus of Iyengar yoga. Rather
than moving quickly through the poses as in the Ashtanga practice,
Iyengar students take more time, and often use props to align
their bodies into its ideal positioning. Poses are then held,
often for many minutes. |
| Kundalini Yoga |
| Using movement, meditation and the healing power of the breath, this class will open your heart and soul, clear negativity and boost your immune and nervous systems! We will explore various techniques (asana; breath work; sound in motion) to open up physical energy pathways - tapping into the possibilities we hold - beyond our limiting thoughts. Kundalini Yoga is a practice of tapping into pure healing energy - its purpose (and science) is to arouse the creative being from within - it makes people happy, clear and purposeful. 90 minutes that will change your life! |
| Jivamukti Flow |
Jiva mukti means "liberation while living" and is a method
of yoga created
by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984. It is a vigorously physical and
intellectually stimulating practice leading to spiritual awareness. |
| Mom & Baby |
| Mom & Baby yoga classes provide an opportunity for you to reconnect with yourself, regain strength and flexibility, bond with your baby, and to connect and network with other moms. The focus of the class is postnatal yoga. Special attention is paid to strengthening the core, soothing neck and back strain, relaxation and restoration, and being present in the moment. Moms participate as they can, taking time to soothe, feed, and attend to their babies when needed. Some poses involve the babies if they enjoy it, and sometimes we practice baby massage or walking meditation as ways to soothe the babies.
|
| Mom and Older Baby |
| Regain core strength and flexibility with your older mobile babies, up to 18 months or so. |
| Naga |
This practice is based in structure and integrity, drawing
on the dynamic
element of shakti available in each pose. |
| Prenatal Yoga |
| Classes for the mother-to-be offer gentle
yoga postures and breath work to cultivate health and calmness for
both mother and child. |
| Silent Practice |
| Explore an essential aspect of yoga asana - self
directed practice. Teacher will be there to offer
suggestions and hands on adjustments, but this is
essentially an open practice - so you can arrive at
any time.
|
| Tantric Vinyasa 3 |
| An alignment oriented flow class incorporating tantric practices. Use of asana, pranayama, kriya meditations, mantra and chanting. The tantric approach is to uncover our inherent joy and reduce stress and fear.
|
| Therapeutic |
| These classes are geared specifically
towards people with physical limitations, illness or chronic pain,
or those just looking for a treat. Gentle and sensitive, the therapeutic
yoga class uses traditional yoga poses, while maintaining consciousness
of each person's unique abilities and limitations. |
| Yin |
| Yin yoga emphasizes long-held, passive
stretching to enhance flexibility in the connective tissues that
form our joints. The intention is to stimulate circulation in less
flexible areas such as the lower back, hips, shoulders and sacrum.
This deep, meditative practice complements all other activity, especially
the more active (Yang) styles of yoga. |
| Yin Flow |
A gentle flowing practice of long, passively held yin poses
in conjunction
with strength-based asanas and vinyasa transitions. |
