This is an intimate extended practice for intermediate students, deeply nurturing since we have time to luxuriate in warm-up as well as challenging since we warm up to our edges - not to "perform" postures but to explore and expand our perceived boundaries.

Maritza leads this class mostly from her mat in a slow deep and meditative tempo. She guides your awareness throughout -in the same way she practices with precise instructions from her body into yours, targeting key areas of focus in each pose to penetrate through layers (koshas) of physical, mental and emotional holdings that have taken silent shape in the body. You are encouraged and clearly instructed to move from your core, (Bandha work included) and to cultivate a meditative mind as you catch new vistas from your internal landscape.

Minimum requirements:
  • Regular attendance to level 3 classes.
  • Ability to lift up to standard Inversions (using the wall is fine).
  • Ability to push up into backbend.
  • No major injuries.
  • Appreciation and respect of Yoga ethics.
Questions? Ask Maritza in prior class to attending.

To register for Maritza's Maha Practice, please call the Larkspur studio at 415.380.8800 ext. 2 or stop by any studio front desk.

About the instructor
Embodying twenty-seven years of living and exploring yoga in its many forms, Maritza brings the gift of Inspiration with a rare wealth of experience to her teaching. Originally from France, she trained and worked professionally as a young actress in Paris, and later in New York, alongside renowned artists before heeding a profound calling in 1981 that sent her on a life-changing journey to India... and subsequently led her to dedicate her life to metaphysical studies.

A modern-day-mystic, truth seeker, rogue adventurer and consummate learner, she has traveled extensively and trained intensively for two decades in Asia, Europe and the US. She was certified in Iyengar Yoga in 1989 and in Anusara Yoga in 2000 while her core practice has remained steadily anchored in Vipassana-body-based meditation since 1981.

Today, Maritza's richly textured and eloquent presentation is rooted in the sound knowledge she acquired from years of masterly yogic studies and discerning psychological inquiry, while deeply reflecting her own artistic soul and intuitive journey of growth, life-healing and transformation into Spirit and Grace.

A teacher's teacher, she has been conducting notorious Advanced Studies in the Bay Area, including a popular 3-month Intensive Training here at the YOGASTUDIO every Fall since 1999. She is the award winning creator of a beautiful home practice best-seller DVD produced by Gaiam.
