About Janna Barkin
Janna's first yoga experience was a hatha class at college in 1988. She loved the way it made her feel more connected with herself, and with the rhythms of nature, and she has been practicing ever since. Called to teaching, she delights in creating a safe space for others to open to their true potential as they explore the yoga path. Classes with Janna invite a joyful opening in body, mind, and heart. Her style combines a playful passion for the practice with a strong understanding of universal alignment principles, as taught by John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga. She is currently registered as an Anusara-Inspired teacher. Janna is deeply grateful to John, and to her main teacher, Ulrika Engman, for their inspiration and guidance on the yoga path. Along with offering on-going public classes, prenatal classes, mom and baby classes, and yoga retreats, Janna also brings yoga to children in schools all over Marin County. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, as well as a Certified Childbirth Educator (CBE) with ALACE (Association of Labor Support and Childbirth Educators).
About Danielle Hougard
Danielle began her love for teaching yoga in 1993 with a certification in Acu-Yoga (the combination of yoga with acupressure and chakra balancing to bring harmony to the physical, mental, and emotional body) from the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley. It was a severe car accident in 1989 that sent her on a healing journey that would lead her into the holistic healing field and to the Acupressure Institute. She went on to complete a 1000 hour certification in Acupressure massage therapy with a specialization in Emotional Balancing.
In 1999, Danielle discovered Anusara Yoga and instantly fell in love with the system. She came to John Friend, the founder of Anusara, with pain and physical limitations and through his caring attention and principles of alignment was able to find a deep understanding of and relationship to her body and self which moved her deeply. Anusara is a unique approach to hatha yoga which integrates universal principles of alignment with the art of inner body awareness and the celebration of the heart. Danielle is a Certified Anusara teacher and considers it an honor to pass on the gifts of knowledge that have been given to her.
After the birth of her son Gabriel in 2001, she discovered her love for teaching Pre-natal as well as Post-partum and kid's yoga classes. Danielle brings a breadth of knowledge, wisdom, experience and playfulness to all her classes and workshops. In her private sessions, Danielle draws upon her rich life experiences and in depth studies in yoga and the healing field to support her clients on their unique journeys. Danielle lives in Marin with her husband, Mark and son Gabriel.
