Artistic and spiritual paths share great common ground. In this one-of-a-kind retreat, Ann Dyer and Peggy Orr take us on a rare journey where yoga and art, chant and cuisine, colonial riches and shamanic mystery come together in a week designed to inspire the mind and feed the soul. Oaxaca, a World Heritage UNSECO Site and one of the most important cultural centers of Mexico, boasts an abundant art scene spanning indigenous handicrafts to cutting-edge contemporary art galleries and museums. It’s meticulously preserved Spanish colonial charm shines in baroque churches, cobblestone streets and idyllic jardins. Guests will stay at the beautiful Casa Sagrada, owned and designed by noted Mexican artist Arnulfo Mendoza and located among a Zapotec community of artisan weavers in a quaint village just outside of Oaxaca. This will be a retreat rich in rasa -"juice of life" -with each day including two yoga classes and ample time to take in art, indigenous culture, Oaxaca’s legendary cuisine, presentations by local artisans, relaxing spa services, siestas and more.

Testimonials from Peggy's recent YOGAWAY

Yoga with Peggy Orr at Haramara is the ideal embodiment of form and substance. Haramara provides the perfect container for practicing and Peggy provides inspired and delightful yoga instruction. Haramara was created by Sajeela, and the integrity of her intention is expressed everywhere, from the thoughtful and perfect placement of each palapa on a hillside overlooking the Pacific, to the design of the yoga space to the delicious healthful and organic food.

Peggy is a skillful instructor under any circumstances, but the opportunity to spend a week of intensive practice with her in such a beautiful setting is extraordinary. Even with several levels in a group, Peggy is able to meet everyone's needs. She provides useful individual attention and paradigm shifting adjustments as she moves the class through systematic asanas. At the end of the week I felt both stronger and more relaxed in my body and my practice. When do we go back?

About the Instructor
Peggy Orr
Peggy's eclectic artistic background has paved the way to her deep connection to yoga. She started her practice with classical ballet training at age nine and went on to dance and choreograph professionally in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco through her mid-twenties. At 23, she threw away her pointe shoes in favor of modern dance and now credits yoga for healing her poor feet. After a successful career in choreography and performance art, Peggy started her family and discovered yoga. With small children, she didn't have time to take 4 hours of dance classes every day, so yoga was a perfect solution.

Beginning with Ashtanga, she spent four years practicing with Chuck Miller at Yoga Works in Santa Monica and then went on to study with Rod Stryker, Erich Schiffman, Paul Grilley, and Tim Miller. With over ten years of teaching experience, Peggy brings her delightful humor and attention to the breath to a challenging practice meant to open all her students to their true selves.

Ann Dyer is known for her unique work that blends the practice of yoga asana with the mystic yoga of sound. Her extensive knowledge of yoga, rooted in the Iyengar tradition, is supported by a over a decade of in-depth study of Nada Yoga, the yoga of sound and a lifetime devoted to music. She is on the faculty of Piedmont Yoga in Oakland and presents workshops internationally on asana, chant and yoga for insomnia.
